Apple is putting serious money behind its push to bring chip manufacturing stateside. The company has committed to buying more than 100 million processors from TSMC's Arizona fabrication facility in 2026.

The move is part of Apple's broader effort to reduce its dependence on Asian semiconductor production. Right now, the vast majority of chips powering iPhones and other Apple devices are manufactured overseas — and the US remains years behind Asia in fabrication capacity.

TSMC's Arizona plant represents one of the most significant attempts to close that gap. Having Apple as a guaranteed mega-buyer gives the facility a massive anchor customer and a clear demand signal.

Still, reshoring an entire chip supply chain doesn't happen overnight. Apple clearly wants more domestic production, but the timeline for anything resembling parity with Asian fabs stretches well into the future.
