Google Taps Geothermal Power to Fuel Nevada Data Centers
Google struck a deal with Ormat Technologies for up to 150 MW of geothermal energy for its Nevada data center operations.
Google just locked in a major clean energy deal. The Alphabet subsidiary signed a power purchase agreement with geothermal energy specialist Ormat Technologies to supply up to 150 megawatts of renewable power to its Nevada data centers.
The energy will flow through local utility NV Energy, with delivery expected to begin in 2028.
The move is part of Google's broader push to power its sprawling data center fleet — which underpins everything from Search to its AI ambitions — with cleaner energy sources. Geothermal is particularly attractive because it delivers consistent baseload power around the clock, unlike solar or wind.
With AI workloads sending data center energy demand through the roof, Big Tech is scrambling to secure reliable clean power. Google's betting geothermal can help fill that gap in Nevada.
